How to Control What Kids Watch from TikTok’s CEO
Having children who love using social media, including TikTok, is certainly a source of pride for parents. However, as responsible parents, we must also ensure that our children are protected from age-inappropriate content. This is where the TikTok Kids feature, exclusively available in the US for controlling what kids watch, plays an important role in providing a safe and positive experience for kids.
TikTok CEO, Shou Chew, passionately expressed his support for TikTok Kids while speaking at the TikTok Southeast Asia Impact Forum in Jakarta on Thursday (15/6). He expressed his happiness that his children, who are under the age of 13, can enjoy positive experiences through this feature while in the US.
The TikTok Kids feature comes with screen time restrictions, so parents can control the time their children spend on TikTok. This gives parents confidence that their children won’t be exposed to too much screen time, which can negatively impact their health and well-being.
How to Enable or Disable Restricted Mode on TikTok?
There are so many social media shows that are meant for adults that children are strictly prohibited from watching. Control your kids’ TikTok viewing with the Restricted Mode feature which can be easily set up through the following steps:
- Open the TikTok app and tap the Profile icon located at the bottom of the screen
- Select the Menu button located in the top right corner of the app
- From the Settings and privacy menu, select the “Content preferences” option
- Locate and tap the “Restricted Mode” option
Follow the steps that appear in the app to set or enter a passcode, to enable or disable Restricted Mode as desired.
When Restricted Mode is enabled, TikTok will automatically filter out content that is not appropriate for children, so they can only view and enjoy safe, age-appropriate content.
The Importance of Parents’ Role in Controlling What Kids Watch on TikTok
Although TikTok has provided TikTok Kids and Restricted Mode features to help control what children watch, the role of parents is still very important. Parents should remain active in supervising and communicating with their children about their use of social media, including TikTok.
By talking openly about safety and wise use, parents can help children understand healthy screen time limits and age-appropriate content. In addition, it’s always important to maintain open communication with kids so they feel comfortable asking questions and talking about their experiences on TikTok.
The TikTok Kids Restricted Mode feature is another step forward in providing a safe and positive experience for kids while using TikTok. With the help of this feature, parents can have more confidence and peace of mind as their kids explore the world of TikTok.
However, don’t forget that parents still play an important role in supervising and controlling what they watch on TikTok. Open communication and active supervision will help create a safe and positive environment for children in the rapidly evolving digital world. With good cooperation between TikTok, parents, and children, we hope to create a fun and educational experience for the younger generation in using social media wisely.
