TikTok, a social media platform from China, is getting serious in the e-commerce business through TikTok Shop which is a form of social commerce. This is starting to shake the dominance of old players such as Shopee and Tokopedia.

According to a survey conducted by Cube Asia, 85 percent of TikTok Shop users began to reduce their shopping in other marketplaces. Of these, 51 percent of respondents reduced their shopping at Shopee.

45 percent of TikTok Shop customers also bought fewer items on Lazada and other e-commerce platforms. In addition, 38 percent of TikTok Shop users reduced in-person shopping.

The survey involved 1,197 respondents and was conducted in March 2023 in Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
